Laboratory Head Institute of Virology, Technical University of Munich and Helmholtz Munich, Germany

Gregor Ebert is a laboratory head at the Institute of Virology at the Technical University of Munich and at the Helmholtz Munich. His research focuses on the identification of virulence and host immune factors that restrict the ability to eradicate chronic intracellular infections, including hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection.

He performed his graduate studies at the Institute for Medical Microbiology, Immunology and Hygiene at the University of Cologne, Germany. After he obtained his PhD, he did an extended postdoc in the lab of Prof. Marc Pellegrini in the Infection and Immunity Division at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, Melbourne, Australia. After his return to Munich, his lab continues to investigate cellular cell death and involved inflammatory response mechanisms and how they are manipulated during infections using in vitro and in vivo models. His work intersects with the fields of molecular virology, cell signaling, immunology and biochemistry.
