Using the Tutorial

In each of the tutorial pages, you will see text instructions for using a particular feature, along with a multimedia demonstration of this feature.

To move from page to page in this tutorial, use the left and right arrow buttons below the text instructions on each page - the right arrow will move to the next page in the tutorial, and the left to the previous page. Alternatively, you can click on the main topics at the top of the page, to go to the first page associated with the selected topic.

Each of the tutorial pages also includes a link to the NLM web page covered in that section of the tutorial. These links will open in a separate browser window, so that (by switching between windows) you can continue with the tutorial as you experiment with the features of the National Library of Medicine that you are learning about.

Like the rest of the Hepatitis B Foundation web site, this tutorial is designed for a screen size of 800 X 600 or larger (for best results on an 800 X 600 screen, the browser window should be maximized).

Multimedia Content

In each of the pages that follows, you will see text instructions for using a particular feature, along with a multimedia demonstration of this feature. In order to see and hear the multimedia portions of the tutorial, you will need to have version 6 or higher of the Macromedia Flash Player installed; you will also need to have scripts enabled in your web browser. If you don't have the Flash Player installed, or if you have scripts disabled, you will see static images in place of the Flash content (just as you will, if you select the HTML-only version of the tutorial).

Download the Flash Player

The multimedia demonstrations will automatically "stream", allowing you to start playback of a demonstration even while it is still downloading. However, please note that these files are fairly large (250KB to 825KB), and it may take several seconds (even a few minutes, on a dial-up connection) for the buffer to fill so that playback can start.

If you are on a low-speed connection, and don't wish to take the time download the Flash content in each page, simply click the "Begin the Tutorial (HTML Only)" button.
